Many countries in Asia have deeply rooted cultural traditions associated with weddings. Karmiar Rokni, a wedding dress designer from Pakistan, will often balance classic style with fresh trends. Yet it remains customary among the majority to stick with traditional, timeless designs.

  1. Chinese Wedding Dresses

    • Traditionally, the Chinese wedding gown is red silk with silver and gold beadwork and embroidery. The Phoenix and dragon are used often because they represent harmony between the man and wife.

    Indian Wedding Dresses

    • Weddings are one of the most important ceremonies in the Indian culture. Indian wedding vary, based on the bride's preference. Punjabi wives tend to wear the Lehenga, a design with a long skirt and separate top in vibrant colors. Although red remains popular, pink and gold are often used, as well.

Gujrati and Hindu wives tend to wear a traditional saree, elaborately ornamented with a long veil. The veil in the Indian culture is meant to show respect to the gods.

    Japanese Wedding Dresses

    • Japanese brides are painted white for their wedding ceremonies, and traditionally don a white kimono. The white is meant to symbolize their purity, and their headpiece is generally more elaborate. After the wedding, the bride will change into a red kimono. Modern Japanese brides will often change from the red kimono to a Western-style dress during the reception.

    Asian Weddings

    • The continent of Asia is home to many religions, traditions and values. In addition to China, India and Japan, weddings in Pakistan, North and South Korea and Vietnam are also tremendous occasions where tradition is key.

Modern women will sometimes opt to wear a color other than red, but generally, red is considered auspicious, with stunning beadwork, gems and embroidery. By keeping tradition close, these dresses remain timeless.
