Colleges That Have Volleyball Scholarships for Women
Young women players have many opportunities to earn college volleyball scholarships in the U.S. More than 300 Division I programs offer volleyball scholarships for women. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has nearly 300 schools that offer some type of volleyball scholarship. By landing such a scholarship, young women can compete in a sport they love while getting an education.

Good grades as well as athletic ability are critical to landing a volleyball scholarship. Many of the top volleyball schools are academically challenging, including UCLA, Penn State, University of Southern California, Michigan State and Dickinson State.

Many schools offer full scholarships for college volleyball players at a time when the costs at public universities are rising. For example, the total cost of attending UCLA for out-of-state students was about $35,000 per year for the 2010-2011 academic year. The total cost for attending Penn State was about $33,000 per year for such students.

Volleyball can be a ticket to your dream school if you are a top volleyball player. For example, Stanford University, also known as the Harvard of the West, won the NCAA championship six times between 1992 and 2004. It frequently has won the Directors Cup.
Commitment

Top volleyball programs require a commitment in time and energy. Practice, meetings and matches can take up to 30 hours a week during the season. Academics, extracurricular activities and a social life must be balanced with volleyball obligations. As a student athlete, time management will be critical to being successful at school and volleyball.
