Thomas the Train Invitation Ideas
"Thomas & Friends" is a big part of the lives of many small children, so it's no wonder the blue steam engine is such a common birthday party theme. When throwing a themed birthday party, the invitations set the mood. You can purchase ready-made Thomas the Tank Engine party invitations, or get creative and make your own train-themed invites. Does this Spark an idea?

Little Conductor
-
Dress the birthday child up as a train conductor in a blue suit and cap -- licensed Thomas The Tank Engine conductor costumes are available from most online costume retailers -- or have him wear blue-and-white striped overalls and an engineer cap. Take a digital picture with a train theme, which can be your child playing with Thomas toys, standing in front of a Thomas poster or even in front of a real steam engine, if possible. Use the photo to make the invitations on your computer or through a photo printing web site.
Number Cards
-
Make invitation cards shaped like the numbers painted on the fictional steam engines. For example, if the birthday child is turning 5, create red cards shaped like the number 5. The children will recognize that 5 is for the red engine, James. Decorate the inside of the card with Thomas & Friends stickers, in addition to the important information. Number cards can be made on the computer and printed out, or made one at a time out of construction paper.

Boarding Passes
-
Homemade "boarding passes" are simple to make with a basic paint program. Boarding passes should look like train tickets, but with a bright-colored background and large text. Print two boarding passes on each sheet of paper, stacked horizontally so that they're a narrow 4 1/4-inch by 11-inch, and cut them apart with scissors. Suggest that the children bring their boarding passes to the party, where a grown up "conductor" will punch them with a hole punch.
Coloring Page Invites
-
The official Thomas & Friends website offers birthday party ideas and downloads, including a birthday coloring sheet that can double as a party invitation. Use a fine-point permanent marker to write the party information in the balloons, but leave the page un-colored. Fold the sheets and put them into blue envelopes to distribute -- you can even add small boxes of crayons with it, if you like. The invitees can color the pages and hang them up, so they won't forget about the party.
