"College Hoops 2K5" Tips
In ESPN's "College Hoops 2K5" for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, players can take control of one of nearly 400 college teams from across the country, allowing them to play as their alma mater, a rival school or a team of their own. While you don't have to be a star athlete to win in "College Hoops 2K5," it can still be difficult for new or casual players to win against seasoned players. Consider these tips to improve your skills and get the most out of your gaming experience.
-
Practice Makes Perfect
-
Just like a real basketball player, the more you practice, the better your game will be. "College Hoops 2K5" comes with a practice mode that allows you to focus on different skills, such as passing, shooting and blocking. Use practice mode to figure out the mechanics of the game and learn the controls before you participate in tournament play against the computer or a live opponent.
Unlockables
-
In "College Hoops 2K5" you can unlock alternate jerseys for select teams by earning credits. In order to earn credits you must complete certain objectives during gameplay. Objectives range from simple tasks like successfully performing a given number of steals, blocks and passes to complex goals such as gaining a 40-point lead over your opponent. Each jersey requires 45 credits, and there are ten alternate jerseys to collect for selected teams.

Rebounds
-
Collecting rebounds should be a top priority, as this defensive strategy can help you gain control of the ball. When possible, use a player that gives you a height advantage over your opponent, and position the player between your opponent and the basket. This will box out your opponent, making it harder for him to snatch the rebound, leaving it open for you.
Shooting
-
Learning to perform the different shots in "College Hoops 2K5" and the best time to use each one can help you rack up points. Layups are the easiest shots to make in this game and are almost always successful, so look for opportunities to use them whenever you can. Your basic shot is the jump shot, which can often be blocked but is easy to pull off. Use fade-away shots when you are in a tight situation to help break away from your opponent's defense.
Stealing
-
Going for the ball when your opponent is in control can be a risky move, but when done correctly it can give your team the advantage. A successful steal will usually result in an opportunity for a fast break as you gain momentum, however an unsuccessful steal will result in a foul. Practice your stealing skills so you know when to best use the move and how to avoid the penalty that is usually associated with it.
Burger King Mode
-
As part of a promotional deal with the fast-food restaurant, "College Hoops 2K5" features special Burger King unlockable items, including a stadium, power-up and team jersey. Each Burger King unlockable costs 25 credits, and buying all three items will give you the ability to play in Burger King Mode. To play in Burger King Mode, select "Quick Game" and use all of the Burger King items at the same time to unlock this special game mode.
