Quick Meals for Children to Make

Quick Meals for Children to Make thumbnail
Eggs and toast is an easy, quick meal that a child could make.

When children are school age, giving them more responsibility in the kitchen will enable them to develop independence. Having them start to make quick, age-appropriate meals for themselves with parent supervision is a way for them to learn how to eat healthy as well. Quick meals for children include cheese crisps, English muffin pizzas, cereal and scrambled eggs with toast.

  1. Cheese Crisps

    • This meal involves the children using the toaster oven. Lay a tortilla out on a paper towel on the kitchen table. Then sprinkle the tortilla with shredded cheese. The children will then fold up the tortilla so it makes a "boat" of sorts. Then, turn the toaster oven on low and place the tortilla filled with cheese on the toaster oven rack (without the paper towel). Close the toaster oven door, put the setting on "Low," push the toaster button down and wait 15 minutes until the cheese crisps are done.

    English Muffin Pizzas

    • English muffin pizzas are a little more complicated and also involve using the toaster oven. They also may involve parental supervision. Lay out English muffins split apart on a plate. Cover each muffin with a spoonful of tomato sauce and a handful of shredded mozzarella cheese. Put the muffin halves into the toaster oven, close the toaster oven door and put the setting on "Low." Push down the toaster oven and wait 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

    Cereal with Milk

    • This meal is the quickest. The children can grab bowls, their favorite cereals, milk and a spoon. The cereal goes in the bowl, the milk gets poured in next and they are done after putting the cereal box and milk away after pouring.

    Scrambled Eggs with Toast

    • This involves the use of the microwave and the toaster oven. Take a slice of bread and put it in the toaster oven set on "Low" and push the toaster button down. Place a bowl on the counter and take out one egg. Crack the egg into the bowl, being sure not to allow any shell pieces to fall into the bowl. Beat the egg with a fork till the yolk and egg are mixed together. Place the bowl in the microwave, covering it with a paper towel and setting it for three minutes on high. When the egg is done, place it and the toast on a plate.
