Recording engineers do more than simply record music. They create and produce the audio that is an essential part of our lives today. Audio is part of our entertainment, whether it's music, movies or online gaming. Florida is home to a number of colleges that offer associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in recording and audio engineering. You can train for a career in a growing field and enjoy life in the Sunshine State.

  1. Full Sail University

    • Full Sail University is in Winter Park, Florida, near Orlando. Full Sail offers both an associate and bachelor's degree in recording arts. Full Sail was originally founded as a school specializing in music and sound. Both programs focuses on four areas: sound fundamentals, recording and mixing, music production and post-production. A high school diploma or GED, along with a letter of recommendation, is required for admission to the school.

    University of Miami

    • The University of Miami's Frost School of Music offers a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in music engineering. The bachelor's degree focuses on music mixing, recording and production. The master's degree is for students who have undergraduate degrees in electrical engineering or computer science. The program focuses on creating the hardware and software used in recording engineering. All students study music history and theory. Frost was founded in 1975.

    Miami Dade College

    • The Miami Dade College's School of Entertainment and Design Technology offers an associate degree in music business with a concentration in creative production. Business classes are an essential part of the program, along with more focused classes in a major and general education classes. Anyone with a high school diploma or above is eligible for admission. The school has four locations in the Miami area.

    International Academy of Design & Technology

    • The International Academy of Design & Technology is located in Tampa, Florida. IADT offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in audio production. The degree includes study of music theory, recording, mixing and sound design in a number of different media. Admission requires a personal interview and completion of high school. IADT doesn't offer on-campus student housing, but does offer assistance in locating off-campus housing.
