Use a miniature pumpkin for a game of pumpkin pass.

When planning a Halloween party for school children, use your imagination to create "spooktacular" activities to keep them busy throughout the party. From a simple ghost craft to a game of pumpkin pass, pique the interest of your pupils with exciting activities. Awarding small prizes, such as candy and stickers, to all game winners will have the children ready for the next activity. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Ghost Craft

    • Give each pupil a round sucker, a white tissue and a small piece of black ribbon or yarn. Have the children put the tissue around the sucker and tie a piece of black ribbon underneath the ball of the sucker. This creates the head of the ghost. Help the children use a black marker to draw two eyes and a mouth on the white tissue covering their sucker.

    Mummy Wrap

    • Divide your class into four or five groups and give each group two rolls of toilet paper. Have each team designate someone to be the "mummy." When you say, "Go," the teams race to see who can cover their "mummy" with toilet paper first. The first team to cover their "mummy" with toilet paper, leaving her eyes and mouth showing, wins the game.

    Paper Plate Pumpkin

    • Have each child paint a paper plate with orange tempera paint and allow each one time to dry. Cut yellow triangles for the eyes and nose, brown squares for the stem, yellow mouths and green leaves for the children to use to glue to their plate. For older children, they can cut their own pumpkin pieces to make the pumpkin different from everyone else's.

    Pumpkin Pass

    • Purchase miniature pumpkins that fit under the chin and neck of the children, and divide the children into two teams. Have the children line up, and give the first person in each line a pumpkin. When you say, "Go," the children have to pass the pumpkin down their team line using only their neck and chin. If a team drops a pumpkin, it must go back to the start of the line. The first team to get the pumpkin all the way down the line wins the game.

Pin the Nose on the Witch

    • Draw a witch on a large poster, and draw a dotted line where her nose should go. Print or draw several noses, and write each pupil's name on a nose. Put double-sided tape on the back of each nose. Blindfold each child and spin her four times. Tell her to try to pin the nose closest to the correct spot on the witch. The child who pins the nose closest to the correct spot on the pumpkin wins the game.
