Ideas for Having a Birthday Party for My Son & Daughter Together
When your kids' birthdays fall in the same month it makes a lot of sense to think about throwing a joint birthday party. Of course, throwing a party for a son and daughter at the same time can be challenging, but with a little creativity you can create a party sure to please them both. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Themes
-
Throw a themed birthday party that appeals to both boys and girls. Boys can dress as cowboys and girls as cowgirls, or host a prince and princess party. Plan activities for the party that relate to the theme. For example, erect a maze out of cardboard boxes in the backyard and have the prince or princess who makes it through the maze first crowned king or queen. Make lassos out of rope and let cowboys and cowgirls try to lasso 2-liter bottles decorated with paper cut-outs of cows.
Sports
-
Host a party based on your kids' favorite sports. If your daughter is a soccer player and your son a baseball player, decorate the house based on the various sports' paraphernalia. Use black and white streamers to represent the colors of a soccer ball. Cut out bats from recycled paper grocery bags and tape them to the walls. Bake two cakes, one decorated as a soccer ball and the other as a baseball. For games try having kids throw a baseball through an old tire or kick goals into a small cardboard box. Set up an obstacle course for soccer players to race through. Let baseball players race while balancing a baseball on a wooden spoon.

Out of the House
-
Depending on the ages of your children you can plan a party at a movie theater, mini golf course or a restaurant such as Chuck E. Cheese where kids can both play a variety of games and eat. The benefit of holding a birthday party outside of your home is you don't have to worry about decorating or cleaning. Bake or buy a cake to bring to the event. Decorate one half of the cake with a special message for your son and the other half with a different special message for your daughter.
Laser Tag
-
If your son and daughter are teens host a laser tag party. Rent time at a laser tag course in your area. Make certain that parents of invited kids sign any liability release forms required by the course. Kids can either play boys versus girls, or help them to mix and match the teams. Provide pizza and soda for a simple birthday meal every teen will enjoy.
