Children's Bible Activities for Thanksgiving thumbnail
Thanksgiving is about plenty and thankfulness for God's gifts.

The Thanksgiving holiday is a time to give thanks for life and all of the joys and happiness found in the last year. During the holiday, children's activities can take on a secular and non-religious feel. The holiday ends up seeming like it is all about turkey dinner and eating pies. There are Bible activities for children that remind children that the holiday is also about thankfulness and appreciation for God and all that He gives. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Pilgrims Coloring Activities

    • The pilgrims are one of the most associated groups with the Thanksgiving holiday. The pilgrims were also protestant Christians who would give thanks to God for a good harvest, feast and survival in a harsh land. Children can color pictures of the pilgrims bowing their heads to pray and giving thanks in worship. The children might list items the pilgrims thanked God for during the first Thanksgiving feast. The page might have a verse like Psalm 107:1. "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!"

    Thanking God Activities

    • The holiday is about giving thanks to God and children can work on activities regarding their personal thanks to the Lord. Children might write out a list of all the things they are thankful for in the last year. Younger children might draw a picture instead of writing the items out. These can be shared with the whole family around the dinner table. Write a Bible verse like 2 Corinthians 9:15. "Thanks be to God for His inexpressable gift!"

Bible Verse Fill in the Blank Activity

    • There are several Bible verses relating to giving God thanks and being thankful. Parents or Sunday school teachers can give children Bible fill in the blank worksheets. These have most of the Bible verse, but are missing one or two words which children must write in. If children are too young the write, they can give answers out loud.

    Thankful Poster

    • Children can make a poster of all the things that make them thankful. Parents or teachers provide a large poster board and allow children to draw images of the things they give thanks to God for or the children can cut out pictures and glue them to the poster board. Put the poster on the wall where children will see it and remember what they have to give thanks for. Add a Bible verse across the poster, such as 1 Thessalonians 5:18. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
