Chipmunk Art Projects
Chipmunks are small brown and striped rodents similar to squirrels. Some chipmunks are more reddish brown in color depending on the species, of which there are 25. Besides their role in nature, chipmunks have gained fame on the big and small screens thanks to television and movie series such as Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers and Alvin and the Chipmunks. Create chipmunk art pieces in the classroom or at home.

Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks
-
Learn how to draw the most famous cartoon chipmunk of all either by practicing with pictures and tracings or by using the website How To Draw, which includes an application for drawing as you follow their tutorials. In addition to Alvin tutorials, other classic characters are available, such as SpongeBob Square Pants and Sonic the Hedgehog.
Paper Bag Chipmunk
-
Create a paper bag chipmunk using a lunch-size brown paper bag, ribbon, brown construction paper, scrap paper and crayons. Stuff the paper bag with paper scraps or old newspaper; use enough to form a flat rectangle shape. Seal the bag shut with tape while keeping it flat as it will be the base of your chipmunk. Take a piece of colored ribbon and tie it around the bag to form the head. Use the brown construction paper to cut out chipmunk ears, tail, feet and paws, which can be simply rectangular shapes with rounded ends. Tape or glue them to the sides, top and bottom of the bag. Use markers to create a chipmunk face and yellow paint to create the chipmunk's back stripes.

Pine Cone Chipmunk
-
Measure the bottom of a pine cone and cut out a same-size piece of corrugated cardboard. Glue the cardboard to the bottom of the cone and wrap an elastic band around it about midway. Slide two cream-colored pom poms under the band to form cheeks and stick some brown pipe cleaner into the pine cone right above the cheeks to create a nose. Cut out and glue two small brown construction paper circles above the nose for the eyes and wrap a piece of pipe cleaner around the top of the pine cone for ears. Attach two yellow pieces of tape to a paper cup and cut them out for chipmunk stripes. Use a feather for the tail and brown construction paper for the arms and legs.
Sock Chipmunk
-
Create cuddly sock chipmunks and simultaneously recycle old brown socks. Stuff the sock with polyester filling or other similar craft material. Don't forget to create puffy cheeks by strategically placing pom poms in the sock bottom (the chipmunk face) and sew the sock opening shut. Collect brown buttons of assorted sizes and styles to create the eyes and nose. Use either yellow fabric or yellow felt to create the strips going down the back of the chipmunk and brown felt for the ears. Use black marker to create stripes around the eyes.
