Photography can be a great pastime for children and adults alike; learning the art of photography can make you more aware of the beauty of everyday life. If you are thinking of signing your child up for a photography summer camp to help them develop their skills, these summer day camps are great examples of what you and your child can expect.

  1. Creative Clicks

    • The Creative Clicks photography camp is run out of the office studio of Emily Deisroth in Washington, DC. Deisroth offers several camp sessions throughout the summer to teach kids the basics of photography. Campers will learn how to properly handle a camera, basic photography techniques, photography etiquette and how to compose a photograph. The camps run for a period of 5 days, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Because of the size of the studio, there is a limit of 8 campers per session.

    Serenbe Photography Center

    • The Serenbe Photography Center in Palmetto, Georgia, offers a summer photography camp that runs from 19 to 23 July. Parents can sign their children up for daily classes, or for a whole week's worth of instruction. Children who attend this photography camp will learn about cameras, light and composition while trying their hand at using film and digital cameras. Children will also get to use the center's dark room to develop their own photos. The camp runs each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. --- there is no limit to the number of campers allowed and scholarships are offered to help families afford the costs.

School of Cinema and Performing Arts

    • The School of Cinema and Performing Arts offers a youth photography camp in the summer for children aged 11 to 13. The program is run from the Burlington Vermont Campus where pre-teens will get hands-on experience with photojournalism, portrait photography, fine art photography and various publishing mediums. This course is closely tied to the acting and film making programs and kids will get a chance to put their photography skills to good use. This is a fast paced program, designed for students to build on their existing photography skills.

    Dallas Cultural Arts Photography Camp

    • Dallas Cultural Arts is located in Dallas, Georgia, and offers a wide variety of summer camp programs for children interested in the arts.
