Give a practical gift that the bride and groom will be able to use.

Weddings are a very special time in a person's life. Besides the wedding, there will be events leading up to the wedding to celebrate such as the bridal shower. Bridal-shower gifts are usually practical household items that the bride and groom will need to set up their new home. The invitation may state where the bride has registered. Check the bridal registry and set a budget for how much you plan to spend.

  1. Linens

    • The bride and groom are starting their new life together and may be tossing such things such as old sheets and towels that they had while single and wouldn't want to share once married. Check the gift registry to see if they have indeed registered for linens such as towels, sheets and comforter sets. If someone else has already purchased the comforter set, you can purchase the sheet set and toss pillows in order for the bride to have a complete bedding ensemble.

    Kitchen Items

    • If the bride and groom are an on-the-go couple, give them kitchen items such as a food processor, blender, toaster, cookbooks or a pot-and-pan set. These items will make it easier for them to deal with a new schedule of working, coming home and preparing meals on a regular basis.

    Entertainment Items

    • If you know the bride and groom love to have dinner parties and get-togethers, give them items such as variety of cocktail and wine glasses, punch bowl, cake holders, liquor decanters and ice buckets. This way, when they are hosting a party, they will have such items available. Check the gift registry to verify if there is specific entertainment item the bride registered for.

    Theme Gifts

    • If the invitation states there is a theme to the bridal shower, stick to the theme. For some theme showers, such as lingerie, the invitation may state what color lingerie you are to give. There are also "24-hour" showers, for which the invitation will tell what time of day your gift represents. For example, if you were given eight o'clock in the morning, you may want to give a gift such as a coffee maker with assorted coffees or a waffle maker.

    Additional Information

    • Make sure to have the item taken off of the gift registry to avoid duplicates being purchased.

Request a gift receipt just in case the bride receives the same item twice.

Ask the hostess of the shower if there is a particular gift that the bride has to have.
