Down Styles for Bridal Hair

Short hair can be fixed into a variety of funky or classy down styles.

It's expected that a bride will want to look her very best on her wedding day. Aside from her dress, shoes, nails and makeup, brides must choose a hairstyle that will look beautiful. For women who have long hair, or hair that's too short to pin up, a down style is often the best option. Even though the hair is down, there are still several ways to style the hair. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Layered Curls

    • Brides with longer hair may want to choose a hairstyle that shows off their tresses. Curls can be layered throughout loose hair to give the hair a volumized, springy look that is both exciting and elegant. Some brides may prefer to curl all or most of their hair into large curls, while other brides may prefer tighter curls. You can also curl just the ends of the hair, at varying lengths, for a classy down style.

    Low Ponytail

    • Flowing hair can be tied back into a loose ponytail for a sleek or more confined look. Hair can also be curled or waved before it's placed in the ponytail, which leaves it looking natural but slightly more tamed. The ponytail can be positioned so it hangs down the bride's back, or can be twisted so that it hangs to one side, cascading over the bride's shoulder.

    Partial Up Style

    • Some brides with thicker hair may want to choose a hairstyle which leaves most of the hair loose and flowing, while pinning a small amount back or up. There are many ways this hairstyle can be accomplished. Hair can be pulled high or low, or the hair could be pinned at only one side. A pretty hair accessory, such as a clip or barrette, can help complete this look.

    Flowing Style

    • Brides with naturally thick or even slightly wavy hair often choose to leave their hair down without pinning or curling it. This creates a very natural, simple look. This look shows off the inherent beauty of the bride's hair. The style can also be accompanied by a small hair accessory, such as a headband.

    Hair Accessories

    • There are number of different styles, sizes, and colors of hair accessories that a bride can use to accent even the simplest down hairstyle. These accents are especially lovely to use when the bride has decided not to wear a veil. Barrettes, flowers or clips can be used to accent ponytails, or to simply hold loose hair back in an elegant way. Headbands or tiaras also add a special touch to simple hairstyles, and work particularly well with short hair.
