According to Sunrise Children's Services, more than 86,000 reports are filed each year in Kentucky of children being mentally, physically or sexually abused. This demonstrates the need to assist youth in programs that offer individual, family and group therapy, support and recreational activities. Residential programs typically provide these services and are designed for long-term treatment. Kentucky residential treatment facilities also provide foster care and adoption services.
Sunrise Children's Services
Sunrise Children's Services is a nonprofit, faith-based organization assisting children and youth who have experienced abuse or neglect. The organization operates 10 residential treatment facilities across the state, offering foster care, crisis stabilization, adoption services and family counseling. The goal of Sunrise is to treat the body and spirit of children, break the cycle of abuse and assist youth in becoming productive citizens in society. Other programs include IMPACT Plus, which serves individuals under the age of 21 who are diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, home studies, adoption assistance and youth support services for teenagers with behavioral problems and those recently discharged from residential care or the juvenile justice system.

Brooklawn Child and Family Services
Brooklawn Child and Family Services is a 28-acre psychiatric residential treatment center for emotionally troubled children in Louisville, the first of its kind in the state. The facility incorporates a Restorative Approach to treating children and adolescents, which utilizes positive reinforcement and effective coping skills rather than punishment. Services include treatment, comprehensive care and education in a pastoral setting. Programs are available in residential treatment, outpatient care, group home settings, intensive residential treatment and an on-campus school. The on-campus school allows students to earn credits toward a high school diploma, GED or vocational education by incorporating an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). All programs are designed to accommodate boys between the ages of 5 and 18 and girls between the ages of 6 and 11.

Necco Center
The Necco Center is a private agency providing therapeutic foster care and community-based services to youth who have been abused or neglected, or those in the custody of child welfare agencies or the juvenile justice system. According to its website, the agency serves troubled children and teenagers that other agencies are not willing to accept. The Necco Center maintains nine facilities across Kentucky, and other locations in Georgia, Ohio and West Virginia. The agency provides residential and off-site services through therapeutic foster care, prevention services, adoption home studies, juvenile detention alternatives and independent living. Necco also sponsors the Kids Fund, which is a non-profit organization providing treatment reimbursement and contributions to agencies supporting children in foster care.
