Ideas for an Asian Wedding Shower
During medieval times friends of the bride would provide gifts in replace of a dowry payment when a poor woman's family could not provide one. This practice provided the women the opportunity to marry because a dowry was required by the bride's family for marriage. Today, the bridal shower represents the celebration of marriage, and many brides wish to incorporate their heritage into the shower.

Authentic Dancers
-
Hire authentic Asian dancers for your bridal shower. There are many Asian dances to choose from, and will create an authentic look for your shower. Choose from ancient classical dances like the Asian fan dance, bharatanatyam, kuchipudi, kathak or traditional kmer. Pick a dance that has cultural meaning to you and will entertain your guests.
Games
-
Add Asian influences to westernized games. Divide the guests into equal groups, and have them design a wedding dress from saris or Asian-inspired fabric in replace of white toilet paper. Play new bride bingo, and use Asian themed words instead of traditional numbers or English wedding words.

Food
-
Stick to appetizers and provide plenty of variety. Dim sum, samosa, batata wada or spring rolls are good choices because they are light dishes. For a heavier dish you can choose meat dishes such as chicken or vegetable curry, beef noodle dishes or chow mien. Choose light healthy dishes for dessert like mixed fruit with whipped cream or Jell-O.
Décor
-
Select decor that's Asian-inspired and use fabrics that are made in Asia. Raw handmade silk, cotton or satins are good for table linens. Use decorative fans, chopsticks or mini henna kits as party favors. Hang paper lanterns, set up a money tree, or use saris as backdrops. If windows will be visible, paint temporary window decals from traditional bridal henna designs or other Asian designs such as good luck charms or poetry.
