Your employer might reimburse you for cell phone costs.

An employer generally provides you with all the supplies and equipment you need to do your job. But in some cases you might need to purchase additional items, and when you do, the company you work for could reimburse you for the cost of that equipment. You could also be in line for reimbursement if your job requires you to travel and you incur expenses as a result of that trip.

  1. Meals

    • If you are working overtime or traveling on business, your employer may reimburse you for the cost of your meals. Most companies have a maximum reimbursement for each meal, so if you go over that limit, you might have to pick up the rest of the cost. For example, your employer might reimburse you up to $7 for breakfast, $15 for lunch and $25 for dinner. In many cases you will need to submit receipts to document the cost of each meal, so be sure to keep those receipts with you until you have a chance to complete your expense report.

    Travel Expenses

    • When you need to travel for business, your employer can reimburse those expenses. If you need to fly to another office, the company can reimburse you for the cost of the airline tickets, as well as the costs associated with the rental car, taxis and the hotel room. If you use your own vehicle to make the trip, the company can reimburse you based on the miles you drove. Your supervisor can let you know the amount of that mileage reimbursement and give you the appropriate expense report form to fill out.

    Office Supplies

    • If you have to purchase office supplies and equipment to do your job, your company might reimburse you for those purchases. For example, if you are a computer technician working in a remote location, you might need to purchase network cables, thumb drives, external hard drives and other technical equipment to make the necessary repairs at that office. If you are due to give a presentation away from the office, you might need to purchase markers, tablets and other office supplies for that presentation.

    Cell Phone Service

    • If your employer requires you to be available during non-working hours, the company might be willing to pay the entire cost of your cell phone service. In some cases, employers issue company-owned cell phones to their employees, with the understanding that those employees use the phones to remain available when needed. In other cases, the employer pays part or all of the cost of the employee's personal cell phone, provided the employee submit monthly statements for reimbursement.
