Children Bible Topics

Children Bible Topics thumbnail
It can be difficult to narrow down Bible topics for children.

Teach Bible topics to children so they can easily grasp how the Bible is chronicled and where to quickly find particular books and stories. The main resource used should be the Bible itself supplemented with other children's books dealing with specific topics.

  1. Creation

    • The Garden of Eden is a part of creation in the Bible.
The Garden of Eden is a part of creation in the Bible.

Creation is discussed in the first book of the Bible and should be the first step in teaching Bible topics to children. Reading Genesis can give children a vivid idea of God's greatness and how life began. There are many colorful children's books available that teach about creation. Have them create 3-D projects depicting the Garden of Eden with foam core and natural materials such as grass, flowers and sticks. Children learn better with hands-on activities that use texture and visual displays.

    Judges and Kings

    • Include judges in children's Bible topics.

Follow the stories of creation with the books of Judges and Kings. We teach about famous artists using drawings and paintings, why not use the same concept with judges and kings from the Bible. This is not only fun, but requires the child to use her imagination because we don't actually know what they looked like. Read a story about one judge and king at a time, chronologically, then complete a drawing or painting about the person with a few facts. Display them in a prominent place so children can remember what they studied.

    Prophets

    • Kings and prophets are an integral part of Bible history.

After judges and kings, discuss prophets. This is certainly not an area that can be done quickly as there were a lot of prophets. A good study Bible such as the "NIV Archeological Study Bible" has interesting pictures that you can use for project ideas. There are plenty of free online resources available including coloring pages, puzzles and downloadable stories. Incorporate special meals into your study of the prophets, such as vegetables and water for lunch after reading Daniel. Foods such as lamb, olive oil and grains were major staples in ancient times.

    Jesus

    • The study of Jesus should always be part of Bible topics for children.
The study of Jesus should always be part of Bible topics for children.

The birth and teachings of Jesus should round out Bible topics for children and then they may begin more detailed studies from the Bible. By covering creation, judges, kings, prophets and Jesus, they will have a good base understanding of how the Bible is sequenced and the general area of where to find specific stories. Ending with Jesus brings the child full-circle into the creation, fall and ushering of the Holy Spirit through Jesus. Pay special attention to Jesus' words concerning children so they learn how deeply they are loved. This is a good time to make hearts out of paper or other materials to display the love of God.
