Science Project About Roses in Water
If you are looking for an easy science fair project, consider using roses as the main subject for experimentation. There are a variety of ideas that can help you understand the adaptive properties of plants, and roses in particular, including changing the color of a rose with colored water, adding nutrients to water and changing water temperature to observe plant growth.

Project Ideas
-
There are multiple ideas for roses in water for science experiments. You can use different food coloring in glasses of water, each with their own rose, to help demonstrate the absorbent qualities and characteristics of plants. You may want to record the effects of different water temperatures on plant health and growth, using a control glass of water with room temperature, hot water and ice water. Other ideas can involve adding various nutrients to water, such as aqueous fertilizers or using a simple aquaponic system using fish to fertilize plant growth for the roses.
Documentation
-
As you are documenting your experiment, you can use a computer's Internet camera or a point-and-shoot digital camera to record the effects of your experiment's setup. Be sure to take multiple pictures, at least once or twice a day, during your experiment. You may even be able to use a computer program to turn your pictures for each rose into a short animated film showing the fast-motion results of your experiment.

Scientific Method
-
As you prepare for your experiment, use the scientific method to create a hypothesis for which you will test using the roses and containers of water. Typical science fair projects also should use the analysis of data through charts or graphs to show how the experiment's hypothesis was objectively measured. For example, use a bar graph with pictures of roses to show the growth of each plant.
Presentation Ideas
-
In addition to showing graphs and charts regarding your project, you also may want to show some of the pictures or use digital picture frames to visualize the images captured during your experiment. You can use pictures of different roses or pictures from the Internet to help decorate your rose experiment on poster board. Alternatively, you can include an artistic element and find poems or prose about roses.
