Tent Ideas for a Wedding Ceremony

A wedding tent can complete the theme of a wedding.

Utilizing a tent during your wedding ceremony allows you to take advantage of an outdoor setting without subjecting your guests to inclement weather. The decor of the tent can set the mood of the reception and complete your design and color scheme, making the space comfortable and beautiful.

Unexpected Lighting

Strings of white lights are a popular choice for wedding tents; for an unexpected lighting choice that will create an elegant atmosphere, choose hanging lights. For an eclectic, chic look, choose chandeliers that will contrast with the simplicity of the tent material. If you want to set a soft, romantic mood, go with white or cream candles in clear hanging boxes or lanterns. For a rustic or country wedding theme, you can put candles in hanging canning jars. The soft lighting from the hanging lights will make a tent with high ceilings seem more intimate.

Fabric Drape

Many wedding tents are made of off-white material; if you want to add a touch of color and texture to the interior or exterior, use draped fabric. Choose a light material that will not add undue weight to the interior of the tent. Cut long lengths of fabric and attach it to the peak of the tent; drape it to the ceiling edge and allow it to hang to the floor, adjusting the loop of the fabric to create the appropriate look. For a more sophisticated look, choose low-contrast fabric or a light print, and for a more dramatic impression, go with a bold color or jewel tone.

Flower Pots

For a fresh touch that brings the outdoors into your tent for a daytime wedding, use potted plants. Hang plants from the ceiling or around the edges of the tent walls, or set them on the edges to create a makeshift wall. Use flowers for a bright color scheme, or create an eco-chic feeling by using simple green plants. In a tent with a high ceiling, you can allow the plants to drape over the edge of the pots. You might also use garlands of greenery to complement hanging plants and add to the natural feeling.

Dropped Ceiling

To add a more comfortable feeling to a wedding tent, drop the ceiling with hanging objects. Cut lengths of clear fishing line and use them to suspend a ceiling of flowers, origami cranes or small ornaments. For a modern wedding, hang small mirrors or crystals to catch the light and create a sparkling ceiling. The lower ceiling will give your tent a more personal feeling.
