Decorating Ideas for Wedding Reshearsal Dinners

Your wedding rehearsal dinner can be a small or large gathering, depending on the size of your wedding party and the size of your family. When planning the rehearsal dinner, you may want to match the theme of the dinner to the theme of your wedding, or go in a completely different direction. For instance, if you're having a casual outdoor wedding, have a backyard BBQ rehearsal dinner.

  1. Garden Party

    • A wedding held in the spring or summer practically begs for an outdoor rehearsal dinner, especially if the wedding itself will be indoors, and a garden party theme is great for an outdoor setting. Hold the dinner in someone's backyard or see if you can rent space at a botanical garden. Cover the tables with white or pastel tablecloths. A simple vase filled with vibrant flowers, such as gerbera daisies, will make a perfect centerpiece for each table. You can also sprinkle rose petals or flower buds in the center of each table. Use floral print napkin rings or wrap each napkin in a vine or flower stem.

    Picnic

    • Cover picnic tables with red-checked tablecloths for a casual backyard BBQ or picnic-themed rehearsal dinner. Use condiment bottles as your centerpiece. You can arrange them in a metal carrier or leave them free and arrange them according to bottle size. You can also place a picnic basket at each table, filled with condiments, utensils and napkins. Use glass ketchup bottles or red squeeze bottles instead of the plastic bottles ketchup usually comes in. Use vibrantly colored plates, bowls and cups.

    Food-Related Decor

    • Use the food you're serving at the dinner to choose the theme in decorating. If you're serving Mexican or Tex-Mex food, have a seven-layer dip and a bowl of tortilla chips act as the centerpiece at each table. Place a pizza on a tray or cake stand in the center of the tables for a pizza party dinner. You could also fill tall vases with bread sticks for a centerpiece or arrange crudités and dip in the center of the table.

    Photo Decorations

    • Your wedding is all about you and your partner and the new life you're starting. Make a photo collage of pictures of the two of you and place a collage in the middle of each table. Since the rehearsal dinner is for family and the wedding party, as well as out-of-town guests, consider adding a few pictures of all the guests attending. If the dinner is indoors, set up a photo collage wall full of pictures.
