A romantic picnic followed by a walk is just one way to celebrate your girlfriend's birthday.

Although the thought of planning a birthday celebration for your girlfriend might make you break out into a cold sweat, there are plenty of ideas available to you to help make her birthday special. When celebrating her birthday, be sure to plan something she would enjoy, something you can afford and something you do not do every year. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Trip

    • If your schedules and budget allows, schedule a weekend trip in celebration of your girlfriend's birthday. Go to a place she's always wanted to visit or a place that is special to her. Stay at a romantic bed and breakfast or splurge on an upscale hotel. Order breakfast in bed and enjoy a fancy dinner out. Spend the day sight-seeing or doing whatever activity your girlfriend most wants to do. When taking a trip, try to participate in activities you would not or could not otherwise do in your hometown.

Be sure to take plenty of pictures of you and your girlfriend. Order a few prints as soon as you get back, put them in a nice frame and give them to her so she can cherish the memories of your trip long after her birthday.

    Dinner

    • When celebrating your girlfriend's birthday, there are two ways to do dinner: go out or stay in. If it has been awhile since you and your girlfriend have enjoyed a nice dinner out, then take her to her favorite restaurant. Just be sure to make reservations or call ahead and let the hostess know that you are coming for a special occasion so that you do not have to wait for a table.

If your girlfriend wants to stay in for her birthday, be prepared to cook her an excellent dinner. If your cooking skills leave something to be desired, then order takeout from her favorite restaurant. If your budget allows, consider hiring a personal chef for the evening to prepare your girlfriend's favorite meal. Be sure to clean your house, light candles and have her favorite drink ready when she arrives.

    Picnic

    • If your girlfriend's birthday happens to occur during the warmer months, pack a picnic. Many parks or outdoor arenas offer concerts or outdoor entertainment during summer evenings; if this is the case, consider incorporating the entertainment into your girlfriend's birthday celebration.

Pick up take-out from her favorite restaurant or pack a picnic basket with her favorite foods. Do not forget to bring utensils or drinks. Bring along bug spray and a portable music player loaded with her favorite songs if no outdoor entertainment will be taking place.

If you are picnicking at a park, bring appropriate shoes so that both of you can take a romantic stroll or hike after your picnic.

    Surprise

    • Find out if your girlfriend is a fan of surprise birthday parties before you begin planning. If she is, then plan a surprise party for her by booking her favorite restaurant for dinner or even brunch. Go the extra step by inviting out-of-town friends or relatives whom she does not get to see frequently. Also invite your girlfriend's in-town friends so that she can have all of her loved ones in the same place celebrating her big day.
