Hippie costumes are common, simple, 60s Halloween costumes for kids.

The 60s were a time of social change in the U.S., as well as around the world. Kids' Halloween costumes featuring a 60s theme could include hippies, Go-Go dancers, the Beatles or Sonny and Cher. Television show costumes are popular ideas with groups of children, such as The Brady Bunch or The Monkees.

  1. Hippies

    • Hippie costumes for girls can include broomstick skirts; peasant tops; long, beaded necklaces and macrame belts. Hair or head scarves and wild flowers are nice additions. For boys, bell-bottom slacks in earth-tone colors or blue jeans, tie-dye shirts and vests present a quick hippie costume. Add accessories such as a head scarf or vintage sunglasses to complete the look.

    The Beatles

    • The Beatles would make a creative 60s costume for a group of four. Dress in matching suits resembling the Beatles when the group first became popular, and use either matching Beatles haircuts or wigs. If possible, add musical instruments or microphones as props.

    Go-Go Dancers

    • A sheath dress with vintage 60s print or the British flag works well for a Go-Go dancer costume suited for a child. White, patent leather boots and a headband or scarf make for an easy 60s costume. Additions include 60s-style makeup, such as blue or green eye shadow, depending on the age of the child and appropriateness.

    Television Show Costumes

    • The Brady Bunch dressed alike when performing, with the girls wearing skirts and the boys wearing trousers made of matching fabric. The blouses for both genders would match, and sometimes vests were worn to match the skirts or trousers. To produce the desired effect, this costume idea is best suited for a group of six containing three boys and three girls.

Sonny and Cher often wore somewhat matching costumes, but not quite as matching as the Brady Bunch. A long, straight wig for Cher, and a slightly long haircut or wig for Sonny, with a fake mustache if desired.
