Places to Have a Wedding Reception in the Birmingham, Alabama Area

Birmingham, Alabama has many different types of venues available for wedding receptions. Couples have a wide range of options, from historic homes and museums to modern hotels and restaurants. The following are just some of the possibilities in Birmingham.

  1. Museums

    • The modern Vulcan Park and Museum has an event room equipped with audiovisual equipment, warming kitchen and enclosed bar. The room has floor-to-ceiling windows and is next to the large patio overlooking the city. The event room and patio can each be rented separately or together. For sports fans, the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame has a 33,000-square foot facility that can be transformed to fit a wedding reception. Its sports memorabilia provides the background to events. Event spaces at the Birmingham Museum of Art include the multilevel sculpture garden, cafe, museum lobby and the member's room. The cafe and museum lobby can be booked in conjunction with each other for larger indoor receptions.

    Hotels

    • The Wynfrey Hotel, a European-styled hotel a few minutes from downtown, can accommodate up to 1,200 guests. Its Italian marble, original artwork and crystal chandeliers provide an elegant setting. The Birmingham Marriott offers a 7,480-square foot ballroom, custom menus and certified wedding planners. Near the Birmingham Marriott is the Hilton Birmingham Perimeter Park, which has several spaces for receptions from 50 to 600 guests.

    Historic Homes

    • Located just off Interstate 59, Gabrella Manor is a private estate available for wedding receptions on its lawn, covered pavilion or ballroom dance studio. Outside vendors are not allowed for certain categories, including catering, bar and decor. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, Rucker Place was built in 1900 by a Civil War general as a wedding gift for his daughter. It opened for its first event in 2003 and now hosts receptions in its gardens or various rooms. For both of these venues, the bride and groom must use the home's catering, bar and florist vendors.

    Restaurants

    • Satterfield's is a fine dining restaurant in the Cabana Heights neighborhood that serves European-influenced cuisine. The main dining room can seat up to 63 while the private dining room, patio and the bar are good for intimate receptions. Couples who love seafood have the option of holding their reception at McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant. There are three private spaces to rent or couples can even book the entire restaurant, which has a stained glass dome dining room. Each restaurant has a minimum spending requirement.
