Wedding Decorations & Country Themes

Take your photographer to a country field for a photo shoot before the reception.

To inspire the decor of a country wedding, start with the essence of what country looks like for you, then combine it with the beauty and elegance of a wedding. Base your country theme around the time of year you are planning to have your wedding. Use a country county fair theme for spring or summer, a Southern harvest theme for fall, and a cozy country cabin theme for winter. No matter what you choose for your country theme, stay true to country characteristics.

  1. The Old Barn

    • Red is a common barn color, but feel free to use any color for your barn wood signs.

While you may not have access to, or the desire to have your wedding in, an old country barn, you do want to use the characteristics of an old barn in your decor. Incorporate worn wooden textures for a rustic feel. Paint wood signs with "Just Married," "Mr & Mrs," and other signs of your choice by painting an old piece of barn wood and scratching the paint once dried. For your centerpieces, use tree trunk slices. Sand, polish and stain the slices, or keep as is. Place them in the center of each table for other decor to be placed on.

    Wide Open Fields

Wildflowers are naturally eclectic flowers that grow wild in the country. For your wedding flowers, embrace the various textures, sizes and colors of wildflowers for your bridal party bouquets. Another natural element of a country field is wheat, so bundle it up and place in key locations, including the guest book table.

    The Country Store

    • Group mismatched jars and bottles together in odd numbers to mimic the eclectic feel of the wildflowers.

Old Mason jars are often used for jams and preserves. Collect an abundance of these from relatives, thrift stores and online. Along with Mason jars, collect a variety of bottles and vases. If you plan ahead, you can easily collect a good amount of bottles and jars from your own home. These will be filled with wildflowers and placed atop the wood centerpiece. Jars filled with wildflowers are simple and beautiful as they enhance the natural rustic beauty of the country.

    Southern Style

Plaid and large floral prints are characteristic of Southern country style. Without being too obvious, incorporate these fabrics into your decor for subtle country suggestions. Depending on your budget, solid color table linens such as a warm butter cream, may work better as they are inexpensive compared to patterns. The plaid and floral patterns can be used as accents. For florals, choose dinnerware with a floral detail to place in front of each guest. Instead of the vibrant plaid colors, use a muted color palette of creams and vintage whites. Burlap is a good fabric to use in a country wedding. Extremely complementary of plaid, burlap has overlapping threads and pulls color from the subtle plaid color, from the wood grain, and from warm hues in the butter cream linens. Use burlap to create napkin rings and as a table runner on tables.
