Baby Shower Cake Decorating Suggestions
For many, the cake is an important part of a baby shower. There are lots of options for baby shower cakes, from formal two-tier cakes to novelty cakes to simple sheet cakes and cupcakes. The flavor and style of the cake, as well as its decoration, should match the personality of the shower's guest of honor. Also consider the party's location, theme, menu and size, as well as your budget, when choosing a cake.

Inscriptions
-
Some baby shower hosts bake and decorate a cake themselves. Baby shower cakes are often inscribed with messages made of piped frosting. Simple congratulations to parents-to-be or "Welcome Baby" messages are always popular. If you know the sex of the baby, you can personalize the inscription. For example, if the baby is a girl, the cake could read "Sugar and spice and everything nice" or if it is a boy, "Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails." Research poems and nursery rhymes for an appropriate inscription, or write your own short message from the heart. Inscriptions may stand alone or be accompanied by other decorations, like icing flowers or designs.
Shaped Cakes
-
Fun-shaped cakes can be ordered from bakeries or created at home; to do the latter, visit craft stores and look online for shaped cake pans. Themed cake shapes for baby showers include baby-related items like rattles, bottles, baby booties, toy blocks and baby bonnets. Some moms-to-be may appreciate humorous cake shapes like mommy-to-be bellies or even diaper-shaped cakes.

Cupcakes
-
Arrange the cupcakes on a cupcake tower for an elegant look. Cupcakes are a fun option for baby shower cakes, especially since they are versatile and can be arranged and decorated a number of ways for great presentation.
Baby rattle cupcakes are a fun and easy design; decorate the cupcakes with pastel-colored frosting and then stick a paper lollipop stick into the side of each cupcake to serve as a rattle handle. A soft candy can be stuck onto the end of the stick to finish the look.
If the parents-to-be don't yet know the sex of the baby, consider frosting half of the cupcakes with blue frosting and the other half with pink. Pipe a question mark onto each cupcake and allow guests to make a prediction about the baby's sex when they choose their cupcakes.
Floral Cakes
-
Traditional mothers-to-be may prefer formal floral cakes. If this is the case for your guest of honor, select a traditional round or sheet cake decorated with a beautiful floral design. Formal cakes may consist of one or more tiers. Choose flowers and colors the mother-to-be enjoys, or a design that reflects the venue or theme of the shower.
