Great Wedding Themes
Not every bride has an overt theme to her wedding and reception, but some do, which makes for a very interesting occasion. The theme that you select will determine all aspects of the wedding and reception, including location of the events, colors, time of day, decorations, attire, entertainment and food.

Bohemian, Hippie
-
If you are a vintage, bohemian type of gal, opt for a hippie-themed wedding and reception, which works particularly well outside. Wear a gauzy, peasant type of dress with beautiful scandals or go barefoot. Wear your hair long and flowing or you can crimp it. Your bridal headpiece can be simple, or just put an array of flowers in your hair. Create your own bouquet out of wildflowers and tie them with raffia or macramé ribbon. Take advantage of the natural greenery in a location. Nature can be your wedding decorations. Encourage guests to dress to the theme. Tie-dyed shirts and beads would fit right in as would peace symbols. Make your own beaded jewelry and wear it. Someone can play the guitar or the zitar at the wedding ceremony. Play music from the 1960s and 1970s at the reception. Keep it unstructured and simple. Put wildflowers in mason jars for your table centerpieces. Use beads as ornamentation on your napkins and napkin rings. Colorful, eclectic place mats that don't necessarily match would look great. Serve a vegetarian meal.
Picnic
-
A summertime outdoor wedding with a picnic theme would be delightful. The bride and her attendants can opt for casual, but beautiful, attire done in floral or gingham. A straw hat embellished with a ribbon and a wildflower bouquet will set the tone. Place wicker furniture around the venue. In addition, the guests can sit at picnic tables or on the ground. Toss quilts on the ground for seating. Hand out fans and umbrellas if it is a particularly hot and sunny day. The food is served off of tables covered in gingham and from picnic baskets. Serve your guests fried chicken, corn on the cob, baked beans and potato salad. And you must have lots of pies. You'll need beer on tap for the drinkers and lemonade for the rest of your invitees. Hire someone to play the banjo. He can stroll around playing the instrument while your guests are eating.

Western
-
If you're a fan of the wild west, the men in the wedding party can arrive on horseback and the bride can show up in a stagecoach. Deck the guys out in vests, jeans, cowboy hats and boots and colonial or Doc Holliday ties. The guys should be equipped with spurs and holsters. The ladies, including the bride, can dress in denim dresses and wear cowboy hats. Of course, you can always mix up denim with lace and satin, which the bride might opt to do.
Scatter bales of hay around the venue. Set up a mock saloon door at the entrance to your reception area. Your helpers can dress up like saloon girls. If you don't want an outdoor western wedding, find a charming, old country church in which to get married. This works well with the western motif. Have your cake designed in the shape of a horseshoe and top it with a cowboy figurine. Decorative cowboy boot candles are available, which you can use on your reception tables. Your guests can drink from boot steins.
Tiffany-Inspired
-
If glitz and glamour is the name of the game as far as you are concerned, have a Tiffany-inspired wedding designed around the world famous jewelry store and its jewelry. Use the signature Tiffany blue color on your invitations and in your decorations and bouquets. Your wedding gown should feature crystal embellishments, or other shiny sparkling items, such as beads or baubles, silver or platinum metal threads or, better yet, Swarovski crystals. Your jewelry needs to be stunning. More may be more in this type of wedding.
Consider incorporating the Tiffany blue color into your gown, perhaps as a sash or in your veil. The men should dress in tuxedos and your guests should be told that it is a black tie affair.
Use lots of glittering lights, candles and roses in your centerpieces. Scatter pearls, beads and crystals on the serving tables and dining tables. A Tiffany-inspired wedding shines, glitters and is all about the bling. Consider using crystal chandeliers, glassware and candelabras. This will be a very elegant, breathtaking wedding and reception.
