Situated in the heart of the Philadelphia business, political and historic district, the Friends Select School is a prep school that emphasizes student questions, conceptual learning and rigorous academics. This K-12 private institution houses about 545 students at once. Admission criteria includes motivation, eagerness to learn and a positive attitude. Tuition depends on the student's grade -- from $15,995 for a pre-Kindergarten academic year to $25,825 for the 9th through 12th grade years, as of February 2011.
St. Joseph's Preparatory School

St. Joseph's Preparatory School is an institution for male students only that emphasizes Catholicism in an urban atmosphere. The school is meant for boys who are entering 9th grade. Prospective students should have "mostly As" in their junior high classes and a satisfactory score on the High School Placement Test. Tuition, as of the 2010-11 school year, is $17,600.

Another all-boys school offering a private education for high school students is Roman Catholic High School, which is located just off of Interstate 676 in the heart of Philadelphia. Highlights of the institution include a rigorous academic curriculum, a competitive athletic programs and extracurricular activities. Admission depends on satisfactory completion of the HSPT, as well as high marks on 7th and 8th grade report cards. The tuition depends on the number of family members attending the school and religious affiliation, but ranges from $5,350 to $6,450, as of February 2011.
John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School

The John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls' High School, situated just down the street from the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Academy of Natural Sciences, is an all-girls institution for students in 9th through 12th grades. Admission into the school requires submission of 7th and 8th grade report cards, as well as 7th grade standardized test results, to be judged by the admissions council. Girls interested in JWH must additionally receive a satisfactory score on the HSPT.
