April Fools day pranks will tickle your funny bone.

April Fools is all about pranks and trickery. This holiday dates back to the 1500s. The first recorded prank was by a newsletter in London in 1698. The newsletter reported there would be a public lion washing at the Tower of London. Fooling large numbers of people is common practice with media and corporations. In 2008, the BBC did a news report on flying penguins. You do not have to fool a large amount of people to make an impact. You can enjoy April Fools Day and pull some pranks on your children. Make it fun for both you and your child.

  1. Rearrange the Room

    • If you don't mind putting in the extra work, you can rearrange your child's bedroom. This can be done by making everything backwards and upside down. Turn the posters upside down. Move the bed from one wall to the other wall with the head board facing out. Turn the dresser around so the drawers are against the wall. Your child will be surprised when they get home from school and find their bedroom mixed up.

    Fake Parent

    • Get your spouse's pants, socks and shoes. Get a newspaper that you can glue to a piece of cardboard folded in half. Stuff the pants, socks and shoes with crumpled up newspapers and arrange the pants to "sit" in a chair with armrests. Stuff the socks with newspapers and stuff the socks into the shoes. Place the top of the socks into the bottoms of the pant legs. This way, it will look like a person sitting down. Place the folded "newspaper" on the armrests with the newspaper portion facing out to simulate someone reading the paper. You might need to secure the "newspaper" to the armrests with tape. When your kids come home they will see mommy or daddy reading the paper, try to get their attention by taking the paper away, they will be shocked to see the top half of either mommy or daddy is gone!

    School on Weekend

    • Some children tend to be groggy in the morning. If you have those types of children and if April Fools falls on a Saturday or Sunday, wake them up at the time you normally would for school. Carry on as if it were a normal school morning. If they protest and say it isn't a school day, assure them it is and they will be late for school if they don't hurry up, get dressed and get in the car. After they're in the car with their backpacks and books, drive to the school. When you pull up in front of the school, say "April Fools!"

    Foods

    • A variety of ways exist in which you can manipulate your child's meal on April Fool's Day. If it's the morning, you can switch the yogurt with mayonnaise. If it's dinner or supper time, you can make dessert bars that look like fish sticks. Or you can make ice cream look like mashed potatoes. You can also scrape the cream out of sandwich cookies and replace it with toothpaste. Either way, your children will be surprised with what they actually bite down on.

    Toilet Gag

    • Chances are your children do not know this golden oldie. Before your kids get home from school or when they're not looking, fasten some cellophane to the toilet seat. The next kid who uses the bathroom will end up a little wet.
