Volunteer Jobs in Schools
Retired people, stay-at-home moms and college students frequently participate in volunteer activities. Individuals who are interested in volunteering in the school system have several options available to them. These positions typically do not require a big time commitment, and parents may be able to assist during the day while their children are taking classes.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria provides several jobs for volunteers. During the lunch periods, volunteers monitor the behavior of students, assist children by opening food packaging and guide students through the lunch line. After the lunch times are complete, volunteers clean the tables, floors and empty the garbage. Volunteers may also serve food to the students, assist with food preparation and other tasks inside the kitchen.
Parent-Teacher Association

Assisting in the Classroom
-
Volunteers can be mentors to students with behavioral difficulties and assist students with academic needs who would benefit from one-on-one attention. Volunteers plan classroom parties and seasonal activities. Individuals may volunteer in the classroom by speaking to the students on career day, or reading to children in elementary schools.
After-School Programs
-
Opportunities exist for volunteers to assist in after-school activities such as school-sponsored clubs and sports events. They can also volunteer to be a chaperone for school trips. At sporting events, volunteers can be found selling admission tickets, snack items and school spirit items.
