Indianapolis is the heart of Hoosier country.

Near the center of the "crossroads of America" rests the 13th largest city in the nation, Indianapolis. The city's 200 restaurants offer myriad of options for the fair weather visitor and residents alike. Northwest of the city center are university campuses, parks and, of course, good eats.

  1. Bravo! Cucina Italiana

    • Bravo! is an Italian grill located in the Willowlake neighborhood of northwestern Indianapolis. It is part of a nationwide chain of upscale Italian restaurants, which includes three locations in Indianapolis. The menu is full of recognizable Italian classics: ravioli, calamari, pastas and pizzas. The establishment offers a good selection of fish, including sautéed crab cakes and rosemary grilled shrimp. Online carryout ordering is available via the Bravo! website (see Resources).

    The Iron Skillet

    • The Iron Skillet restaurant resides inside a historic home. The history of the property is reason enough to pay this gem a visit. August Wacker built the house in the late 1800s after acquiring the 90-acre farm property that surrounded the site. The house was eventually converted into a clubhouse. The Iron Skillet opened its doors as a restaurant in 1956. The menu offers traditional home cooking, such as fried shrimp and beef tenderloin, served in an elegant setting.

    The Creation Café

    • Creation Café, on 11th Street, sports a cozy patio with a view of downtown Indianapolis. The menu is a creative combination of deli fare and traditional American cooking. The reasonable prices allow a visitor to enjoy a meal without breaking the bank. The café opens at 7 in the morning to serve coffee. The kitchen opens for lunch and dinner, and dinner is accompanied by live music. Keep your eyes peeled when looking for the restaurant -- it is tucked into the first floor of Bugg's Temple, a historic Indianapolis building.

The Flag Room Pub at Brickyard Crossing

    • The Flag Room, located at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, exemplifies a traditional American pub. The Flag Room's location is what sets it apart. A guest can aid digestion with a few holes at the Brickyard Crossing golf course, located just beside the restaurant. The eatery is also a quiet watering hole for visitors to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
