Cheap Valentine's Day Gifts for Kids & Teachers
In elementary school, Valentine's Day is celebrated in many classrooms. Children and teachers bring in treats and exchange cards. Most schools who hold these celebrations, make it mandatory for children to give a card or treat to each student in the class if they decide to bring in something. If your child is having a Valentine's Day celebration at school, here are some inexpensive gift ideas to send in for the kids and teachers.

Thumbprint Cookies
-
Making cookies to give out as a Valentine's Day treat is a fun and inexpensive way to show your love to everyone. Use your thumb (or your child's thumb) to create prints in uncooked sugar cookies. Place two thumbprints on each cookie, each at an angle, forming a heart. Once the cookies are cooled and baked, package them individually in plastic bags and tie them with red ribbon. A variation of this gift is to place a Hershey kiss on top of sugar cookies while they are still warm to give "kiss cookies" as treats instead. Make enough so every child in the class gets one, and don't forget the teachers. (See Reference 1)
Dollar Store Treats
-
The dollar store is a great resource when looking for inexpensive gifts. You can find mugs, notebooks, pencils, and socks with hearts and cupids on them around Valentine's Day, and kids love these festive items. Teachers will always appreciate school supplies, hand sanitizer or cleaning supplies for the classroom, and all these items can be found at the dollar store. Be creative when looking for gifts at the dollar store. You may even want to put together a small basket full of items such as coloring books, markers, bath toys, bubbles or clay. Some of these items may even be found for less than a dollar. (See Reference 3)

Homemade Gifts
-
Homemade gifts are usually cost-effective and always sentimental. Have your child make gifts for their friends and teachers to celebrate Valentine's Day. A teacher might enjoy a pretty smelling tube of hand lotion, with paper cut-outs of your child hands attached to it, bearing the message "You deserve a hand". Teachers will also appreciate a pin made out of puzzle pieces painted red and glued into the shape of a heart. For the kids in class, pencil toppers made out of foam hearts and pipe cleaners, bearing messages of love are cute and inexpensive to make. Make heart shaped crayons for the whole class by melting old broken crayon pieces in a heart shaped muffin tin. Even the teacher may want her own heart crayon. (See Reference 2)
Valentines Messages
-
Valentine's Day is about love and appreciation, and nothing is more meaningful than a heart-felt card. Have your child make out a card to each student in his class, and one for the teacher. Include a handwritten note mentioning something you like or appreciate about that person. This gift is especially treasured by teachers. Many teachers never hear "thank you" for their hard work, and when they do, it is extra special. To add a treat to the cards, buy a bag of lollipops or heart-shaped candies and tape one to each card.
