Grants for gifted children help finance resources that stimulate and encourage these talented children.

True giftedness in a child can be difficult to recognize but once tested, it opens up a range of rewards and challenges for both child and parents. Parents and educators are challenged to provide projects that stimulate and encourage for gifted and talented children and adequate resources are sometimes costly.

  1. American Honda Foundation

    • The American Honda Foundation releases grants ranging from $20,000 to $40,000 over a period of one year. The foundation favors programs that stress youth education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and the environment. Organizations considered are IRS-listed public charities, public school districts, elementary and secondary schools, both public and private, college and university departments and outreach programs. Deadlines for submission are on the first day of February, May, August and November with grants awarded after three months. Requests must be submitted online with supporting materials sent via snail mail. Only one request can be submitted within a 12-month period.

    Nicholas Green Foundation

    • Candidates for the Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Awards are students between third to sixth grade, who have earned recognition for their academic work, leadership or the arts. Deadlines depend on each state association as each state selects a student to whom the grant is awarded. Enclosed with the application should be a letter or letters of recommendation from the nominee's teacher or principal, a current school photo, a 750-word essay answering questions set by the committee, and a release form signed by a parent or guardian. The Nicholas Green Foundation works in conjunction with the National Association for Gifted Children.

    Davidson Institute

    • The Davidson Institute for Talent Development awards grants to gifted and talented students younger than 18 years of age. Applicants must have completed significant work in mathematics, science, technology, music, literature and philosophy. Applicants are nominated by experts in their chosen fields. Along with the application, a CD must be submitted showing how the nominee's project can potentially benefit society. For 2011, the deadline for receipt of applications is March 31. Receipt of this grant is considered an exceptional honor for its comprehensive coverage. Recipients are acknowledged in a reception and various events, which they must attend.

    Javits

    • Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Grant Program aims to supplement funds for gifted and talented programs in both elementary and secondary schools, allowing them to meet these students' needs. Both students and teachers benefit from this program as most educational institutions, agencies, and organizations can apply for this grant. Recommended uses for the grant include personnel development, and establishment, implementation and strengthening of schools' GAT programs. Regional offices determine application deadlines and results are released two to four months from the date. Unlike other grants, Javits grants are not renewed yearly as awards depend on the availability of funds.
