Foods With the Lowest Calorie & Fat Content
One of the most difficult things in life is finding an effective way to lose weight. While exercise can go a long way in helping you win the battle of the bulge, you will also need to cut back on fat and calories. The problem is that most foods we eat are made by someone else, either in a restaurant or a factory. It is important to move away from this and start eating healthy, whole foods.

Green Stuff

Fruits and vegetables can be a big part of reducing calories and fat in your diet. There are certain caveats to this though. There are some fruits that either are high in starches, such as a bananas, or have a high sugar content, such as a fig. These should be eaten less often than fresh raw vegetables like carrots or celery. However, vegetables almost uniformly have few calories and fat than other foods. For example, the average apple might have about 72 calories, a banana 105, a cup of cooked (unseasoned) green beans 44 and a cup of blueberries 83.
Lean Meat
-
Choose lean cuts of meat and have the butcher remove excess fat. Replace meats like hamburger or ground sausage with lean ground turkey. With the right preparation and with the right spices added, ground turkey can be tasty. Make sure it is either lean or extra lean ground turkey, since the regular variety is almost as bad for you as regular hamburger.

Snack Foods
-
Even the most serious dieter has to have some find of snack food, or she will inevitably fall right off the wagon. Of course you know that you should stop eating chocolate, cakes and potato chips, but watch out for other snacks that you might be surprised by. For example, you might think that nuts would be good for you, but some nuts naturally have extremely high fat content. For example, a 1/4 cup of roasted peanuts has 214 calories and 18 grams of fat, while a 1/4 cup of almonds has 210 calories and 18 grams of fat. But it's not all bad news. sunflower seeds and pistachios aren't nearly as bad. In addition, there are a number of companies that are producing chocolate candy made with artificial sweeteners, allowing dieters to give in to that sweet tooth -- in moderation, of course.
Milk Products
-
Most cheeses are a big no-no. Full of fat and calories, they can really pile on the pounds. If you have to eat a slice of cheese, choose a low-fat version, like Swiss. Always choose the skim milk, since it is lower in fat. Once you get used to the taste, you will hardly tell the difference. This also applies to sour cream, with several companies supplying first-rate low fat versions.
