Places to Get Married in Martinez, California
Martinez is a city of about 36,000 people and 13 square miles in the San Francisco Bay area. The city, which is the county seat of Contra Costa County, has a number of interesting places for couples to get married, some of which involve partaking in the city's natural beauty.

The John Muir House

The John Muir National Historic Site, which is named after the co-founder of the Sierra Club, is a U.S. monument that's maintained by the National Park Service. The main feature of the park is Muir's 17-room Victorian mansion, which is open to the public for weddings and guided tours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. In addition, there's about nine acres of fruit orchards surrounding the home. The park also has a museum and visitor's center.
County Courthouse

Since Martinez is the county seat of Contra Costa County, most of the county's court facilities are located in the Contra Costa County Courthouse in downtown Martinez at the corner of Marin and Court streets. For those wanting a simple, non-elaborate wedding by a justice of the peace, the facilities courthouses are open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nature Trails

The Bay Area Ridge Trail and San Francisco Bay Trail each wind throughout Northern California, but both converge in Martinez. The Ridge trail consists of over 330 miles of nature that's mainly used for hiking, cycling and horseback riding. There are plenty of scenic views within the park's Martinez boundaries for a scenic, outdoor wedding. Nature lovers can also wed on the San Francisco Bay Trail, a 400-mile walking and biking trail that encircles Martinez and the San Francisco Bay area.
Regional Parks

For outdoorsy couples, Martinez Regional Shoreline is a 314-acre land preserve on the north end of Ferry Street that's part of the East Bay Regional Parks system. The park, which is open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, has creeks, ponds, open lawns and picnic areas that can accommodate wedding parties. Carquinez Strait Regional Shoreline is a 1,415-acre regional land preserve on Carquinez Scenic Drive that partially stretches into Martinez from the city of Crockett. The park, which is also open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, consists of much scenic beauty, including open grasslands, wooded ravines and coastal hills.
