Recruitment Selection Tools
Selecting the right employees for your organization has tremendous benefits, including less training time, better production, less stress for you and other employees, better employee retention and a more positive workplace culture, according to human resources developer Simon Sankey in a paper on the South Island Dairy Event website. These benefits only come from careful selection processes that result from the use of effective recruitment selection tools.

Resumes and Cover Letters
-
Resumes and cover letters are staples of the job recruitment process. Companies typically indicate a call for these documents in the content of a job posting. Selena Dehne, writing on the MSN Careers website, advises applicants to write like advertisers and target the position in question with specifics about their abilities to do the job. Employers often use these recruitment selection tools as part of an initial screening process. Candidates who appear to have the basics in experience and capabilities are more likely to get an interview.
Application Forms
-
Sankey notes that application forms are sometimes uses in lieu of resumes. However, in many cases, application forms are used as a selection tool to coincide with a resume submission. An application is often required for formality and legal protection of the employer. Additionally, you can use an application form to clarify a few important items, including criminal convictions, minimum age requirements (e.g., "Are you over 18?"), basic health and specific qualifications. Human resources professionals must use caution to avoid illegal questions that are considered discriminatory.

Interviews
-
Interviews are perhaps the most useful and most popular recruitment selection tool. A single interviewer, or a panel of a few interviewers, may participate. Interviews give you the chance to ask similar questions to each final candidate to compare their responses on important questions. It allows you to interact personally with the candidate to get a sense of personality and character. It also allows you to get a better sense of the candidate's ability to perform the job.
Intelligence and Personality Tests
-
Intelligence and personality tests are recruitment selection tools that have become more prominent in the early 21st century. Though not usually beneficial as stand-alone tools, these tests can offer assistance in getting a complete sense of a candidate's potential. Personality tests help in determining whether a candidate has the basic traits required to perform well in a technical profession such as sales. General knowledge, or intelligence tests, are increasingly being used to gauge a candidate's general capacity to work with others, to count and to communicate well.
