Round Glass Paperweight Crafts
Round glass paper-weights are easy to liven-up with different craft forms. Some of these are extremely simple to make and specialist craft paints and glues designed specifically for use on glass and available from craft stores, makes it even simpler. Personalized paper-weights make in-expensive and attractive gifts, or design one to match the color-scheme of your home.

Painting
-
Buy specialist glass paints from craft stores and paint directly onto the paperweight's surface. For a simple abstract design, old a paint brush soaked in paint over the center top of the paperweight till the paint drops on and trickles down the side. Leave to dry then repeat with another color. Stick to two or three colors to avoid creating muddy shades. Paint bands of different colored translucent paints around the weight for a simple rainbow effect.
Metallic designs.
-
Cut out small square of gold, silver and metalic colored foil and glue in a mosaic pattern across the flat bottom surface of the paper weight, with the shiny side facing the glass. When dry, coat with a layer of clear glue to seal. Dot tiny blobs of glitter glue over the rounded surfaces for a 3-dimensional sparkly glitter effect, which will highlight the reflections of the metallic base.

Decoupage
-
Decoupage is a simple technique in which layers of paper pictures are affixed to a solid surface to create a painted effect. Use tissue or very thin paper so that the light will shine through it. Cut pictures and small shapes from wrapping or tissue paper. Paint a coat of glue over the whole paperweight. Dampen the paper with water (miss this step with tissue paper which will tear too easily) and brush onto the paperweight with glue. When dry, seal with a final all-over coat of glue.
Engraving
-
Engraving is a simple way to etch a pattern or name onto a glass paperweight. The rounded surface will make it tricky to use engraving paste (a fluid with erodes selected areas of glass), so buy engraving tools - these are sharpened implements with diamond dust edges - from craft stores and etch directly onto the glass with these. Draw your design first with a specialist white glass pencil to provide an outline, then scratch over it with the engraving tools.
