Choose unusual centerpieces for a wedding reception.

If you are bored with traditional decorating options for a wedding reception, consider alternative centerpieces. It isn't necessary to stick only with the trends. Floral centerpieces are common. Get creative and give the tables some style. Make the reception a reflection of you both as a couple. There are no rules to follow.

  1. Asian

    • An alternative idea is Asian-themed centerpieces. Asian-inspired alternative centerpieces can incorporate elements such as bamboo, water and bold colors such as red and black. Start with a large, clear bowls that are either round or square. Put a small amount of water in the bowl, about 2 inches or so. Add smooth rocks along the bottom of the bowl. Place three to four stalks of bamboo in each one.

    Mirror

    • A striking centerpiece alternative is to use door mirrors on tables. This works best on a large table. Start with a rectangular mirror. Put it in the center of the table. Place small and large candles on top of the mirror. Decorate the mirror and candles by sprinkling gold or silver confetti and glitter on top. Choose candles that coordinate with the wedding colors.

    Wine Glasses

    • Use wine glasses in centerpieces. The wine glasses don't have to match, use ones of varying heights. Add two inches of water to each wine glass. Place floating candles inside of each wine glass. Make sure that they are unscented as you don't want them to compete with the smell of the food. Decorate the glasses with ribbon that coordinates with the colors in the wedding.

    Beach

    • Beach-themed centerpieces are lovely for a summer wedding. Use large hurricane lamps for the base of the centerpiece. Fill up each one half way full of sand. Use regular colored sand or mix it with colored blue sand. Place pebbles and shells in the sand. Add a large pillar candle in the middle.
