Simple wedding decorations can be found in the most unexpected places.

When searching for wedding decorating ideas you can peruse your typical party supply and department stores. While you put together your wedding, don't overlook those ideas that are commiserate with the seasons or the wedding surroundings themselves. Remain open to eclectic decor that includes items from the attic or friends' homes. Your wedding can look fabulous with the simplest of touches and an ounce of imagination.

  1. Post Holiday Wedding Decor

    • Plan your wedding around the holidays. Better yet, plan your wedding after the holidays so you can take advantage of post Christmas or Easter sales. You can easily decorate the tables with ornaments in bowls in December or with baskets of Easter eggs and wrapped chocolates in spring. Scatter colorful leaves along the aisle and other floor areas in October. Purchase confetti poppers after the Fourth of July and use them to fill champagne glasses with bursts of color.

    Repurposed Christmas Lights

Pull out those clear stings of Christmas lights and line the aisle with them. Wind the lights around archways and above windows. Wrap the lights in tulle fabric that matches the colors of your wedding and drape them around window casings and around the edges of dessert and gift tables.

    Desserts and Candies

    • Rather than grouping all of the food on a single buffet table, take this opportunity to incorporate the goodies into the wedding decorations. Adorn tables with baskets of artisan breads. Fill decorative dishes borrowed from friends and family with mints and candies. Place these on tables, counters and window sills so that guests have easy access to them.

    Candles

Add ambiance with candlelight. Set a candelabra on a table behind the officiant, where the bride and groom exchange vows. Line long tables with tea light candles in place of traditional table runners. Enclose candles on smaller or round tables in hurricane vases. Add small sprigs of flowers or wrap the vases in bows.

    Flowers in Season

Purchase flowers that are readily in season. Inexpensive bouquets are usually available at most grocery stores, often on end-caps just before you reach the cashier. Use these flowers in wreaths and swags to hang from doors or in archways.

    Ribbons and Bows

    • Tie large bows around chairs using tulle, chiffon or polyester blends that closely resemble satin. These bows complement the color scheme of your wedding. For added pizazz, push large gerbera daisies, carnations or roses through the center of the bows. Keep the flowers looking fresh by inserting them in single water picks.
