Affiliate Marketing Tracking Tools
Affiliate marketing provides an individual with an opportunity to sell products and services online and receive a commission based on the sales that affiliate generates. The affiliate is assigned a special tracking code so that he is credited for any sales driven to the product or service owner's website.
To become effective, an affiliate should obtain and analyze metrics to increase his sales. Several types of tracking methods are available.
-
Traffic Data
-
If an affiliate has built his own website to pre-sell a product or service, he should install web metrics software such as Google analytics. This software tracks how many visitors came to his site, what keywords they entered into the search engines to arrive at the affiliate's site, and how long the visitor remained on the site. Additional detailed information is available such as the pages a site visitor viewed and average time spent on the site.
Click Tracking
-
Click tracking provides information about how many people clicked on the tracking code the affiliate was provided to direct a potential buyer to the product or service owner's web site. Click tracking is often provided by the product or service owner. If it is not offered, the affiliate can use a third party click tracking web site.
Since product or services owners often provided a variety of promotional tools such as banners to advertise products or services and text advertisements, a separate click tracking code can be assigned to each promotional tool. This provides the affiliate with information about which promotional tool is providing the best results.

Sales Information
-
The affiliate is always provided with access to sales data and related commission information by logging in to a special area of the product and services owner's website designated for affiliates only.
Evaluate Affiliate Program
-
Before signing up for an affiliate program, review the quality of the product or service being offered, the dollar amount paid per sale and also the affiliate marketing tracking tools the product and service owner provides. Find out how long the tools offered has been provided because if the tools are relatively new and not fully tested, you may get inaccurate and incomplete information. Without the right information to track and evaluate program performance, it is difficult to pick the programs that will deliver the most revenue for you.
