Use your church's natural beauty to decorate for your wedding day.

Once, weddings were simple family occasions. It was common for a wedding ceremony to take place in the bride's home with a few family members and close friends. Homes were smaller and couldn't accommodate a lot of people. The ceremony was a simple affair, and decorating for it was not a priority. Today, weddings are much different. Larger accommodations are needed, and it is more common to have a church wedding. Decorating has also become an important part of wedding planning.

  1. Consider the Nontraditional

    • Use wheat, hay, straw or corn stalks to decorate the church. Use nontraditional wedding fabrics such as flannel and gingham cottons to line tables. Replace chairs with benches or bales of hay. Place saddles throughout the church, and put cowbells on the pews. Dress the bridal party in country dresses instead of the usual gowns.

    Flowers

    • Flowers are traditionally placed at the altar, along the aisle and on the back of each seat. To add uniqueness to your country church wedding, use nontraditional flowers and colors. Instead of using multiples of in-season flowers, consider using smaller quantities of different offseason flowers. Use sunflowers and daisies as your bridal bouquet.

    Bows

    • Bows usually come in solid colors, but you can add a unique flair by using bows that have a design on them. For a country church wedding, go with gingham, plaids or dots. Use a bow that stands out from the flowers. Choose a brighter bow than your flower arrangements. For a more elegant wedding, use bows made from satin, silk, velvet or jacquard.

    Haystack Guest Book

    • Place haystacks in corners and down the aisles. Line the guest book table with a gingham tablecloth, place a small stack of hay on top of the table and the guest book on top of the hay. Provide decorative pens in farm animal shapes for your guests to sign the guest book.
