The Best Jobs for a Single Guy Willing to Travel
Being single and male offers the chance for many adventures that will not be possible after settling down. Work is often associated with dullness and drudgery, but there are many exciting careers for single guys who are willing to travel. With a little research and a yen for the unfamiliar, you may be able find jobs that most people only dream about.
-
Tour Guide
-
A tour guide shows a group of travelers the sights and sounds of a foreign land. One of the attractions of the job is its lack of routine. You will work in different cities and countries, tell others about historic places, and often stay in luxury hotels with your group. Possible locations for work could be anywhere from the Loire Valley to the Himalayas. At the same time, being a tour guide has its downside. Working hours may start as early as 5 a.m. and continue past midnight. Further, you will need to handle a potentially cranky tour group when flights are delayed and hotel reservations are canceled.
Band Manager
-
If you like music, especially rock and roll, a band manager may be a great job. Depending upon the popularity of the band, this job may involve booking, promotion, logistics, and making sure everyone gets to the next gig on time. Generally, compensation is based upon percentage of band revenues (as opposed to a salary), so those who are not ambitious and dedicated may not be a good fit with this job. Though working in the entertainment industry may seem glamorous, bear in mind that the reality of traveling all day in a crowded tour van may not quite live up to your expectations.

Travel Writer
-
A travel writer gets paid to visit foreign places, stay in four-star hotels, enjoy fabulous food and document his experience. It's a tough job but someone has to do it! At the same time, this position is very hard to obtain due to its desirability. Many book publishers and travel magazines only offer modest freelance writing gigs, so you may need to keep a better-paid day job for a long time before you can get gainful employment in this field.
Mercenary
-
If you feel really, really adventurous, working as a mercenary may be the right career for you. Generally, this career path should be considered only by those who have already had significant military experience in an elite unit such as Special Forces or Navy SEALs. Private military contractors will pay top dollar for mercenaries to guard embassies, lead convoys and carry out operations on behalf of the U.S. government in many exotic locales. Of course, this job will be significantly more dangerous than, say, the position of data-entry clerk.
