Valentine Card Box Crafts for Kids
Children look forward with anticipation to Valentine's Day and receiving cards and candy from friends and family. Creating a mailbox for these treasured items is a craft project that your child can complete at home or in school a few days prior to the holiday. Using common items and decorating supplies, your child can create a personalized Valentine's Day mailbox ready for the deposit of Valentines.

Interest-Themed Mailbox
-
Many boys view pink colors and heart shapes as being very "girly," and some girls don't like them either. This kind of child can create a mailbox that depicts his interests. Take a box with a removable lid, such as a box made for storing printer paper or a shoebox. Paint the box a neutral color and cut a slit in the top for the Valentines. Have the child cut out pictures and words from a magazine or something he enjoys such as a sport, comic book character or favorite team. Glue the pictures in a collage on the mailbox.
Coffee Can Mailbox
-
Teach the children in your class about recycling by creating Valentine's Day mailboxes from old coffee cans. Give each child a coffee can approximately 30 to 40 oz. in size with its plastic lid. Have a selection of Valentine's Day wrapping paper available in different patterns, or use red, white or pink tissue paper. Remove the lid and coat the surface of the can with glue. Cut an appropriately sized piece of wrapping paper and place around the can. Cover the lid in the same manner and cut a slit in the center before placing it on the can. If you used plain tissue paper, your child can attach stickers and heart cutouts with glue.

Decoupage Mailbox
-
Teach children the technique of decoupage as they make Valentine's Day mailboxes. Use a box similar in size to a cereal container. You'll also need red and pink tissue paper, decoupage glue, a foam brush, sequins and any other decorative elements you wish to include. Start by tearing the tissue paper into pieces approximately 1 inch in size. Cover the box with decoupage glue and stick the paper pieces in place, overlapping the pieces as you glue. After the first coat of glue dries, apply a second glue layer over the entire surface to seal the paper. Add decorations to the outside like paper heart cutouts, glitter or sequins.
Metal Mailbox
-
If you and your family celebrate Valentine's Day at home, make a mailbox that's usable for years to come. Purchase a small metal mailbox designed to go on posts next to the street. Decorate the mailbox with a Valentine's theme using shiny acrylic paint, decoupage, stickers, cutouts or any other medium. Your child can place the box on the floor outside her room for family Valentines.
