You can take the General Equivalency Diploma test at many sites in Illinois. Find a location in your area by going to the Illinois Community College Board website (see Resources) or if you're in the Chicago area take the test in Illinois' most populous county, Cook County.

  1. Chicago Loop

    • The International Academy of Design and Technology hosts GED testing at various dates and times. The school is at One North State St., Suite 500, Chicago 60602. Check the Cook County GED testing program site (see Resources) for times and dates; do not call the school directly.

    Chicago North and South Sides

    • English and Spanish speakers on the north and south sides of Chicago can take the GED test at St. Augustine College, 1345 W. Argyle St., Chicago 60640 or another St. Augustine location, 2610 W. 25th Place, Chicago 60640. Tests are often offered on Friday and Saturday mornings and evenings. Again, check the Cook County GED testing program site for details.

    Palatine, Illinois

    • If a site in Chicago's northern suburbs would be more convenient, you can take the GED test at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Rd., Palatine 60067.

    Chicago Heights, Cicero

    • In the south suburbs GED testing is offered at Prairie State College, 202 S. Halsted St., Chicago Heights 60411. And in the western suburbs you can take the GED at Morton College, 3801 S. Central Ave., Cicero 60804.
