New York and Los Angeles in particular have many acting schools.

Acting schools are institutions that specialize in the vocational training of acting. Drama classes aim to educate actors and actresses with the basic principles behind the art of acting through intensive training of motion, interpretation of written texts, voice and concepts such as improvisation. There are many acting schools throughout the United States, including those that cater to beginners.

  1. New York Film Academy

    • The New York Film Academy is a film and acting school that is located in New York, New York, on East 17th Street. The New York Film Academy also has locations in the United Arab Emirates and in Universal City, California. The institution is focused on both beginners and seasoned actors. The academy offers both Associate and MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degree programs. Conservatory programs and workshops are also available. The school concentrates on providing its students with experience that resembles a "real life" movie set.

    Theatre of Arts

    • The Theatre of Arts is a Los Angeles, California school geared towards modern acting. The Theatre of Arts has been in existence since 1927 and was founded by an actor by the name of Ben Bard. The vision of the institution is to give its students acting training that is practical, challenging and stimulating. Short-term courses are available, with subjects including script analysis, improvisation, voice and general acting. Extensive conservatory classes are also offered.

    The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts

    • The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts is located in Manhattan, New York City. The Conservatory is focused on young, beginning actors, but has a selective acceptance process that is conducted by auditioning all potential students first. The acting school received accreditation in 1996. The numerous professional training programs are centered around areas such as television, film and theater.

    Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio

    • The Elizabeth Mestnik Acting Studio has a central location in Santa Monica, California on Santa Monica Boulevard. The Studio was opened as an institution for comprehensive acting training in 2001. For beginning actors that have received under one year of education or experience in acting, the school offers a program that is concentrated on basic acting techniques, which revolve around concepts like creative imagination, script breakdown and flexible voices and bodies.
