Wedding Timetable Checklist
Getting engaged is exciting---but then you have to plan the wedding. It may seem like you have plenty of time, especially with a long engagement, but the wedding date will creep up on you. Ensure that your stress levels remain low by following a timetable checklist, which allows you to stay on track with all planning activities.
-
12 to 18 Months in Advance
-
Depending on the length of your engagement, 12 to 18 months before your wedding you should announce your plans to get married and set a wedding date. Decide where you want to have your wedding ceremony and reception and decide on a theme. Figure out your budget to understand how much you can afford to spend on each element. Also, confer with your future spouse about what kind of officiant you are going to use, whether it is a judge or a religious figure.
Nine to 12 Months
-
Nine to 12 months before the wedding, select who will be in your wedding party and ask them if they will participate. Inform them ahead of time if they will be expected to pay for their garments. Check with the marriage laws to verify that you give yourself enough of a waiting period to get your license and complete any testing required. Make a wedding guest list and research photographers. Many times they book up to a year in advance, especially highly skilled photographers.
-
Six to Nine Months
-
Begin selecting the type of entertainment and music that you want at your reception roughly six to nine months before the date. Meet with various florists and choose your flower arrangements. Choose the gowns and tuxes for all members of the wedding party. This allows for proper alterations, if needed, before the date approaches. Discuss where you will be going for your honeymoon and make travel and accommodation arrangements. If you are expecting out of town guests and plan to pay for their accommodations, reserve the rooms.
Four to Six Months
-
Pick your wedding cake four to six months in advance. Order the items that you are having special text printed on, such as napkins, stationery, invitations and thank you notes. Create a wedding registry and purchase the accessories for your wedding, such as a veil and shoes. Arrange transportation for the bride and groom.
Two to Four Months
-
As the date approaches, check to ensure everyone's attire fits appropriately. Mail the wedding invitations and meet with your officiant to work out the details of your vows. Modify any legal documents that will change after marriage, such as a will, leases, insurance or a prenuptial agreement.
One Month to One Week
-
The last-minute preparations for the wedding include scheduling an appointment for a hairdresser, or multiple appointments if the entire party will be going. Write the toasts and reception dinner speeches. Pack your belongings for the honeymoon and complete name change documents. After the wedding, don't forget to send out those thank you notes.
