Fun Family Face Painting Ideas
Face painting is an activity that is done at children's parties as well as for specific holidays like Halloween. However, face painting is not just limited to these venues. Another option is to use face painting as a fun family activity. Spend an evening with the kids and paint each family member's face. To make it extra interesting, hold a contest for the best design. The winner receives an ice cream cone along with the bragging rights to having the best made-up face. To make sure you're the winner of the contest, consider a few ideas.

Cats
-
Face painting with a cat theme is one idea for the competition. Choose from a wide variety of felines. For instance, one family member can paint the common house cat while another can paint his face as a tiger or a lion. To do a tiger, start off with clean sponge and white paint. Paint a white area around the mouth. Paint yellow around the eyes, chin and cheeks. Add orange around the outside of the face, blending it with yellow. With a paintbrush, paint white eyebrows. Add brush strokes around the mouth to look like whiskers. Add white stripes around the face. Use black paint to dot whiskers around the mouth and to outline the white paint.
Characters
-
Paint faces as a movie character like Darth Maul from the Star Wars saga or Iron Man. The children may enjoy seeing who can best paint their face as Spider-Man. To do this, use white paint around the eyes. Cover the entire face with a red paint. Use a paint brush and black paint to create strokes within the red paint to mimic spider webs.

Clowns
-
This is where a child can be most creative because she can paint her clown face anyway she sees fit. To do this, have her start off with the basic white paint all around the face. From there, she can paint red circles on her cheeks and use a red paint around the mouth. If he wants to do an evil clown, have him paint black eyebrows, facing downward. Make the competition extra silly by using wigs and ridiculous mis-matched clothing found in the closet. Once every family member is all made up, march around the house and make your own parade of clowns.
Other Ideas
-
Other ideas include dragons, pirates, flowers and types of dogs like a Dalmatian or a German shepard. Allow the kids to pick their own theme if they choose to. Be sure to use nontoxic and easily removable paint.
