Just about everyone gets bored at some time. We become weary with life's routine, and we lack interest on what's going on around us. To overcome boredom, you need to find focus, live in the moment and engage in activity that will recapture your interest. There are places to go when you are bored that will help you rekindle your interest in your surroundings, find focus and conquer boredom.

Explore Your Neighborhood

Your neighborhood can provide you with a place to defeat boredom. Take a walk with your dog or find somebody to walk with and to talk to while exploring your neighborhood. Renew your acquaintances with neighbors you may have missed talking with for a couple of months or perhaps never really got to know.

Dine Out in Area Restaurants

Most people have a favorite restaurant, or a list of restaurants they have wanted to try but haven't had the chance. Find a family member or friend to join you at a new restaurant. Try a new menu item or an exotic cuisine you have never tried. Let curiosity replace boredom, and enjoy learning new restaurants in your area.

Take a Class

How long has it been since you graduated or last took a class? Technology and other things change so frequently that taking a class is a good idea. Maybe you have a hobby you would like to refresh or a skill you have always wanted to learn. From cooking to sewing to arts and crafts, classes are available at craft stores, libraries and community centers. Go online or look in your local newspaper to find a class you may be interested in. Taking a class in a stimulating subject is certain to keep you from getting bored.

Plan a Day Trip Out of Town

If your budget allows, search in your area for places of interest to visit. This could include a historical site, museum, a farm, or other place off the usual travel route. Talk to elders in your area to discover places of interest many people may not know about or frequent. Visiting new places can be intriguing and just what you need to conquer boredom.

Give of Your Time and Talents

When you have time on your hands, give back by volunteering in your community. Whether it is one time or on a regular basis, organizations will welcome your assistance and presence. You may have a skill an organization needs lacks the budget to pay for. Your volunteering your talents will greatly assist the organization or cause, and at the same time provide you with a sense of pride. Volunteering also gives you the opportunity to get out and meet new people.
