Theater Costume Ideas
Costumes for theatrical productions should help engage the audience in the atmosphere presented. Ensembles can also help actors fully realize their role, while at the same time illustrating a character's personality for attendees. It is important to make the right choices when creating a character's costume because people will judge their appearance as well as the actor's performance.

Homemade Costumes
-
Sewing tools are necessary to construct homemade costumes. Homemade costumes are unique and used in both large and small theatre productions. In a large presentation, costumes may cost more, while in a small production, there can be more room for creativity. Regardless of the show's size, the costume designer has many options for materials, and will have to plan for the amount of time required to make each outfit rather than buying a finished product.
Reused Costumes
-
Different accessories can help differentiate between two actors sharing the same costume. If your production is well-known and costumes from previous incarnations exist, this can be a budget friendly option. The garments may need to be readjusted to fit the character, and fixed up if there is damage. Accessories can add a unique style to an outfit if it is being used for two different characters. Reusing a costume for a well-known character can be helpful for the audience, and though it may need some personal adjustments to fit the specific performance, all costumes for popular character roles will generally be designed the same way.

Store-Bought Costumes
-
Masks and hats are included with costume store purchases. Store-bought ensembles come complete with accessories, but because costumes cannot always be returned, it is important to purchase the correct garments in the correct sizes.
Rented Costumes
-
Costume shops will rent different pieces of costumes seperately. Costume rentals include a fee as well as an allotted time of rental, and the clothing cannot be altered or changed because it is not owned by the designer. Shops that offer rentals typically also have a wide variety of accessories available. If the costume is needed for an extended period of time, however, renting is probably not the best option. The store will hold the borrower responsible for any damages to the garments.
