Gourmet chocolates make a great house-party gift.

In some parts of the United States, primarily in the South, brides not only have a bridal party made up of their maids of honor and bridesmaids, they also have a house party. The house-party members help the bride plan the wedding and may keep the wedding running smoothly by keeping an eye on the guest book and gift table or helping to hand out programs. Although the house-party members don't stand up with the bridesmaids, they still put in a lot of work and deserve recognition.

  1. Drinkable Gifts

    • You give small gifts to the members of your house party to show your thanks. The gifts don't have to be elaborate or expensive, but they should be personal. Think of the house-party member's beverage of choice and gift her a present that focuses on that. For instance, if she loves coffee, consider giving her a pound of gourmet coffee and a personalized mug. If she loves tea, a lovely teapot and packages of tea make a lovely gift. The house-party member who is into wine may appreciate a bottle of her favorite type.

    Chocolate and Other Sweets

    • In most cases, you cannot go wrong giving your house-party members boxes of expensive gourmet chocolate. Visit a gourmet store and pick out pretty truffles or other high-end candies. You may want to pick out a different type of chocolate or candy for each woman based on her preference. If you have a friend in the party who likes a particularly hard-to-find candy or chocolate, do your best to find that variety, but don't try too hard, as you have a wedding to plan.

    Ballet Flats

    • Although the house-party members don't wear the same dress as the bridesmaids, they may still show up at your wedding in high heels. Give them each a pair of comfortable flats to wear during the reception so that she can dance without hurting her feet or having to go barefoot. Look for flats that come folded in a small handbag, so that the women can easily carry them to the reception.

    A Day Out

    • Show your appreciation for your house party by taking the members out for a day at a spa. This gift may get a little expensive, so it's best to do only if you have a small house party. You could also take your house party to get their nails done before your wedding. If none of them is into massages, facials or manicures, consider taking them to the movies, a play or a ball game before the wedding.
