Scarecrow Trail in Huntsville
-
The annual Scarecrow Trail at the Hunstville Botanical Garden showcases hundreds of scarecrows each September and October. On weekends, art shows, hay rides and other Halloween-themed activities fill this family-friendly destination with spooks and budget-friendly fun for kids of all ages. The Scarecrow Trail is included in your admission to the botanical gardens, but be warned, a few of the events cost extra.
ZooBoo in Montgomery
-
The Montgomery Zoo presents a safe, but still thrillingly spooky, evening of games and treats that are fun for the whole family. A haunted hay ride allows passengers to experience a whole new side of the zoo. This event traditionally runs the last two weekends of October and on Halloween night. This event is best suited for young children.

Greenville Haunted Firehouse
-
The Greenville Haunted Firehouse opens weekends in October for families looking for a distinctive haunted house. The little ones can take a flashlight through on special daytime tours designed for those 12 and under who might be a bit afraid otherwise. For the older kids, a teaser ball can be purchased that when worn through the house signifies you are looking for a bigger thrill. Don't be alarmed if you get separated from the group or end up covered in (fake) blood; after all, you pay extra for the experience. Those who miss the chance to experience this annual frightfest or who are looking for some post-Halloween ghouls can usually catch a late tour the weekend following Halloween.
Sloss Fright Furnace in Birmingham
-
The Sloss Fright Furnace opens up two trails each Halloween providing two levels of fright. The Furnace trail is suitable for children, while walkers on the wood's trail must be at least 14 years of age or be accompanied by a legal guardian. For parents not wanting to follow their kids onto the trail, the cafe is open for business with games, movies and other entertainment. The Sloss Furnaces steel mill is recognized as an authentically haunted site in America and has been featured on numerous television shows, including "Ghost Hunters." A less frightening, but possibly just as haunted, tour is available year round, as the Sloss Furnace is a national landmark.
